Civic Club Selects August Yard of the Month

YOM August 2023 with Couple (JPG)

Even the most dedicated gardeners can be singing the blues about the continued heat wave we have been experiencing this summer. Many residents feel they are losing the summer heat war, but this month's winners have a tip for those who want to have continued color through the summer.  It's all in the planning.

The Civic Club's August Yard of the Month, 11 Langham Court, is the home of Bill and Paula Parrish.  Their yard is a beautiful pop of color as you turn into their cul-de-sac with beautiful fuchsia bougainvilleas and an island vibe in the hot Texas climate.  The bougainvilleas, which are several years old, are planted in pots that enable the couple to bring them into the garage to "winter."  Having them in pots enables them to keep them hydrated and beautiful even when we have a run of 100+ days that seem to be frying even the hardiest of plants.  You have to get close to realize they are not planted in the ground!  We may have been melting taking pictures in the sun, but their yard is a tropical breeze!
