ITEM 7: East Relief Pond 1M Project- The East Relief Pond was funded in 2015 and was anticipated to receive grant funding for full excavation and
development into a walking park with wetland features to provide regional stormwater detention. The project has been modified and changed over the years for several reasons. No work could be performed in the wetland area without wetlands permit. Some of the funding has been used for projects downstream of the East Relief Pond area which helped provide better drainage Most recently the city purchased property bordering the East Relief Pond which can be excavated and channelized to help stormwater flows during rain events and further reduce the chances of flooding. These low-cost, gravity-flow solutions helped to reduce the size and scope of a pumping station needed for a regional relief pond. The balance for this project that will be released is $543,383. MDD voted 5-0 to move forward with the project.
